He made his directorial debut with the 2019 war film Uri: The Surgical Strike, which became a critical and commercial success, emerging as the 4th highest-grossing Indian film of the year and earning Dhar the National Film Award for Best Direction. His next film, Dhurandhar, the first film of a projected two-part series, was released in 2025 and became the highest-grossing Indian film of the year and 4th highest-grossing Indian film of all time.
