Overview
Rural England, 1969. When grief tears through a repressive girls' school following a sudden tragedy, something strange begins spreading among the students: a wave of fainting spells that no doctor can explain. At the center of it all are two inseparable friends, one magnetic and reckless, the other raw with loss. Carol Morley's film treats mass hysteria as both literal event and emotional truth, probing the buried tensions of adolescence, sexuality, and institutional control with quiet, unsettling precision.
