Overview
A shy, unnamed young woman marries the brooding aristocrat Maxim de Winter and arrives at Manderley, his vast coastal estate, only to find the house still haunted by his first wife. Every corridor, every room, every glance from the sinister housekeeper Mrs. Danvers insists that Rebecca belonged here and she does not. Hitchcock turns a gothic romance into something far colder, a study of how the dead can hold power over the living long after the facts come out.
