Overview
Sergio Leone's sun-scorched epic drops three morally compromised men into the chaos of the American Civil War, each hunting the same buried fortune in Confederate gold. Clint Eastwood's laconic drifter, Lee Van Cleef's cold-blooded mercenary, and Eli Wallach's scheming outlaw form a triangle of shifting alliances and mutual distrust, circling closer to a showdown that Leone stretches into something closer to opera than gunfight. Ennio Morricone's score does half the acting.
