Overview
Adam and Barbara Maitland are dead, freshly haunting the Connecticut farmhouse they loved in life, only to watch a pretentious Manhattan family move in and redecorate everything they cherished. Desperate and hopeless at actual haunting, they make the catastrophic decision to hire Betelgeuse, a foul-mouthed freelance bio-exorcist with zero impulse control and very big ideas. Tim Burton's 1988 comedy runs on anarchic energy, practical effects wizardry, and Michael Keaton doing something genuinely unhinged with every second of screen time.
