Overview
When a celebrated actress abruptly stops speaking, a nurse named Alma is assigned to her care at a remote seaside cottage. The arrangement seems simple at first: one woman talks, one stays silent. But silence has a strange gravity, and the longer they live together, the more Alma finds herself doing the confessing. Ingmar Bergman's 1966 film dissolves the boundary between caretaker and patient, self and reflection, until identity itself becomes impossible to hold.
