Overview
Andrew Neiman arrives at a prestigious New York conservatory with one ambition: to become one of the great drummers. What he finds is Terence Fletcher, a conductor whose methods border on psychological warfare. Fletcher praises, humiliates, and provokes with equal precision, convinced that the only way to forge greatness is through suffering. As Andrew absorbs punishment and pushes back harder, the film asks an uncomfortable question: at what point does relentless pursuit of excellence stop resembling passion and start resembling self-destruction? Damien Chazelle's film is tightly wound and physically intense, building to a finale that lands somewhere between triumph and tragedy, possibly both at once.
