Overview
Somewhere on the American Southwest's back roads, two men defined entirely by their souped-up '55 Chevy pick up a drifting young woman and find themselves drawn into a wager with a garrulous stranger driving a new GTO. The destination is Washington, D.C., but nobody seems particularly interested in arriving. Monte Hellman's sun-bleached road movie treats forward motion as a kind of existential habit, where conversation is sparse, purpose is absent, and the asphalt just keeps coming.
