Overview
Jeannette Walls grew up with parents who called the open road freedom and called hunger a character-building exercise. Her father, Rex, was a brilliant, bottle-dependent dreamer who promised to build the family a glass castle someday and never quite got around to it. Her mother preferred canvas to cooking. Based on Walls's bestselling memoir, the film moves between her scrappy, peripatetic childhood and her adult reckoning with what it actually means to love people who failed you repeatedly.
