Overview
Four children share a cramped Tokyo apartment, each born to a different father, all hidden from the landlord by a mother who treats motherhood as something she can set down and walk away from. When she disappears for good, twelve-year-old Akira quietly assumes control, stretching yen coins and instant noodles across weeks, then months. Hirokazu Kore-eda films their slow unraveling with heartbreaking restraint, letting ordinary childhood moments brush up against a growing, irreversible crisis.
