Overview
Daniel Plainview arrived in California with dirt under his fingernails and ambition eating him from the inside. Posing as a family man with his young son in tow, he methodically cheated landowners out of their oil-soaked earth for next to nothing. His only real obstacle was Eli Sunday, a charismatic local preacher who saw through the performance. What began as a quiet rivalry between two men hungry for power slowly curdled into something far darker.
