Overview
After twenty-five years behind the anchor desk, Howard Beale gets pushed out by a network that sees him as a liability. His response is to go on air and announce his own televised suicide, a meltdown that somehow sends the ratings soaring. What follows is a savage portrait of American broadcasting, where grief and madness become programming strategy and executives start packaging a man's breakdown as prime-time entertainment. Sidney Lumet's film remains uncomfortably relevant.
