Overview
Eleven-year-old Akeelah Anderson can spell almost anything, but convincing the people around her that she belongs on a bigger stage is harder than any word in the dictionary. Pushed forward by an exacting mentor and held back by doubt from her mother and ridicule from peers, she navigates the pressure of the national spelling bee circuit. Along the way, she discovers that her fiercest competition might teach her more about herself than winning ever could.
