Overview
When a second astronaut crash-lands on the ape-ruled planet searching for the crew of a previous mission, he finds far more than survivors. Deep below the scorched earth, a subterranean civilization of telepathic mutant humans has built a cult around the most dangerous weapon humanity ever created. The 1970 sequel leans harder into Cold War paranoia than its predecessor, trading sociological satire for something grimmer and more genuinely apocalyptic.
