Overview
Werner Herzog turns his camera toward some of the most volatile places on Earth, traveling alongside volcanologist Clive Oppenheimer to witness active volcanoes across Indonesia, Ethiopia, Vanuatu, and North Korea. What emerges is less a geology lesson than a meditation on obsession, myth, and the strange pull that boiling rock exerts over human imagination. Indigenous communities have built entire cosmologies around these fires, and Herzog is as interested in those belief systems as he is in the spectacle of molten earth.
