Overview
Charlie Chaplin's Little Tramp stumbles through an industrialized world that has no use for him, chewed up by factory machinery, tangled in labor disputes, and repeatedly jailed for crimes he barely understands. What keeps him going is a young woman, equally adrift, equally determined, and together they chase a version of domestic happiness that keeps slipping just out of reach. Chaplin shoots for something tender beneath all the slapstick, and somehow lands it.
