Overview
C.C. Baxter has figured out an unconventional shortcut up the corporate ladder: lending his Manhattan apartment to senior executives who need a discreet place for their extramarital affairs. The arrangement earns him promotions, but leaves him sleeping on park benches in the cold. When one evening's guest turns out to be the woman he quietly loves, Baxter's carefully managed compromise begins to crack. Billy Wilder's film is both sharp comedy and genuinely tender, which is rarer than it sounds.
