Overview
Caleb is a small-town Oklahoma kid with nothing more dangerous on his mind than a pretty girl when Mae drifts into his life one dusty night and changes everything with a single bite. Suddenly he is caught between the daylight world he was raised in and a nomadic pack of killers who travel the back roads after sunset, living off truck-stop victims and moving on before dawn. Kathryn Bigelow's 1987 genre hybrid treats the vampire myth as a kind of outlaw Americana, equal parts Southern Gothic and highway noir, with a bruised romanticism running underneath all the blood and burning sunlight.
