Overview
When the secret council SEELE launches a full military assault on NERV headquarters, the carefully constructed illusions holding the world together begin to collapse. Gendo Ikari pursues his own apocalyptic agenda, while Shinji, broken and paralyzed by grief, finds himself at the center of a decision that will determine whether humanity survives or dissolves into something unrecognizable. Hideaki Anno's theatrical conclusion to the series is an overwhelming act of creative desperation, equal parts spectacle and psychological confession.
