Overview
Tasmania, 1825. Clare, a young Irish convict, has had everything stripped from her by a British officer who exercises his rank like a weapon. What follows is her pursuit of him into the colony's unforgiving interior, alongside an Aboriginal tracker named Billy who carries his own private grief. Jennifer Kent films this with unflinching patience, refusing to soften either the brutality or the slow, wary bond that forms between two people whom empire has marked as expendable.
