Overview
Bret and Jemaine arrived in New York City with guitars, optimism, and very little else. Their band has exactly one fan, a manager who moonlights at the New Zealand consulate, and a pawnshop owner for a best friend. The HBO series follows their cheerfully doomed attempt to crack the American music industry, punctuated by musical fantasy sequences that are both genuinely funny and surprisingly catchy. It is deadpan comedy about failure, friendship, and the absurd gap between ambition and reality.
