Overview
Set in 1970s Harlem, Barry Jenkins adapts James Baldwin's novel with extraordinary tenderness. Tish Rivers, nineteen years old and newly pregnant, watches the man she loves get swallowed by a justice system designed to break him. What follows is a portrait of Black love as an act of resistance, told through warm amber light and faces held in long, searching close-ups. Jenkins refuses to let tragedy harden the film. Instead, it stays soft, insistent, and deeply alive.
