Overview
In the 1850s, a Tennessee mercenary named William Walker led a private army into Nicaragua and, through sheer will and ruthlessness, installed himself as president. Alex Cox turns this buried historical episode into a deliberately unhinged provocation, letting Newsweek magazines and modern helicopters coexist with period costumes as a blunt rebuke of American imperial habit. Ed Harris plays Walker with the quiet certainty of a man who has never once doubted his own righteousness, which is exactly what makes him terrifying.
