Overview
Kenji has no parents, no roots, and nowhere to belong until a yakuza boss pulls him into the fold. What follows spans decades, tracking how loyalty to an old-fashioned criminal code collides with a Japan that is slowly legislating that world out of existence. Director Michihito Fujii frames the story less as a gangster picture and more as a meditation on chosen family, obsolescence, and the cost of devotion to people and ideals that the modern world no longer has room for.
