Overview
When twelve extraterrestrial vessels appear simultaneously above different countries, a linguist named Louise Banks is pulled from her quiet academic life and dropped into a military operation with one urgent task: figure out what the visitors want. Denis Villeneuve's measured, melancholy film is less interested in spectacle than in language, grief, and the strange relationship between time and understanding. Amy Adams carries nearly every scene with a stillness that makes the film's eventual emotional weight feel genuinely earned.
