Overview
Frank Pierce has spent years as a New York paramedic rescuing the dying, but the job has hollowed him out. Haunted by those he couldn't save, he drifts through shifts in a fog of exhaustion and guilt, sabotaging himself at every opportunity yet unable to walk away. Scorsese finds dark humor and genuine pathos in Frank's descent through a single night that forces him to confront why he stays.
