Overview
A deranged American general, convinced the Soviets are poisoning the water supply, launches a nuclear first strike on his own authority. What follows is Stanley Kubrick's pitch-black portrait of institutional madness, set almost entirely in a war room where diplomats, military brass, and a wheelchair-bound ex-Nazi scientist scramble to prevent the end of civilization. Peter Sellers plays three distinct roles across the chaos, and the film arrives at its conclusion with a grin so dark it leaves a mark.
