Overview
In Odessa, Texas, a high school football team carries the weight of an entire community on its shoulders every single week. When star running back Boobie Miles suffers a devastating knee injury in the opening game, the town's fragile sense of identity begins to crack. Coach Gary Gaines inherits not just a depleted roster but a pressure cooker of racial tension, economic anxiety, and outsized expectations from adults who have long since stopped dreaming for themselves. Peter Berg's film, based on Buzz Bissinger's landmark book, is really about what happens when a place mistakes athletic glory for meaning, and what it takes to find dignity anyway.
