Overview
Victorian rural England is the suffocating backdrop for Katherine, a young woman sold into a cold, joyless marriage and left to rot in a house that feels more like a prison. When a raw, forbidden attraction cracks open something dormant in her, she discovers a will to survive that recognizes no moral ceiling. William Oldroyd's spare, quietly ferocious film builds its tension through restraint, letting Florence Pugh's controlled performance do the heavy lifting as Katherine moves from victim to something far more dangerous.
