Overview
Set against the cold stone walls of a medieval Italian abbey, this adaptation of Umberto Eco's novel follows Franciscan friar William of Baskerville as he arrives for a theological conference only to find the monks dropping dead one by one. Armed with razor-sharp logic and an empiricist's skepticism, William digs beneath centuries of religious dogma to uncover what the Church would rather keep buried. Sean Connery anchors the film with quiet authority, and the atmosphere is thick with dread.
