Overview
Fred C. Dobbs is broke, desperate, and just hungry enough to dream big. When an old prospector named Howard agrees to lead him and a fellow drifter into the Mexican mountains, gold seems like the answer to everything. John Huston's 1948 classic studies what that gold actually costs, not in labor or danger, but in trust, decency, and sanity. The wilderness is punishing and the bandits are real, but the most corrosive force turns out to be the men themselves.
