Overview
San Francisco, the early 1970s. A serial killer taunts the city with cryptic ciphers and the police with his apparent invincibility. For a Chronicle cartoonist named Robert Graysmith, what begins as morbid curiosity hardens into obsession that outlasts careers, marriages, and the public's attention. David Fincher's procedural is less about catching a killer than about what the pursuit costs the people who cannot let go, even when the trail goes cold and everyone else has moved on.
