Overview
Vietnam veteran Travis Bickle cannot sleep, so he drives. Night after night through the neon rot of 1970s New York, ferrying strangers through a city he finds repulsive and beyond saving. Martin Scorsese's landmark portrait of urban alienation follows one man's slow psychological unraveling, as Travis fixates on a teenage prostitute and a political campaign worker, convincing himself that violent action is the only honest response to a world that has forgotten he exists.
