Overview
A San Francisco surgeon arrives in Paris for a medical conference, checks into his hotel room, and turns around to find his wife simply gone. No note, no struggle, no explanation. What follows is Polanski at his most procedurally merciless, as the doctor batters himself against indifferent bureaucrats, a police force with better things to do, and a young woman carrying secrets she is not ready to share. Paris has never looked so alienating.
