Overview

A veteran barrister, supposed to be resting on doctor's orders, cannot resist the pull of a case that looks deceptively straightforward. A man stands accused of killing a wealthy widow, and the evidence against him is damning enough. Then his own wife takes the stand for the prosecution, and everything changes. Billy Wilder's adaptation of Agatha Christie's stage hit is a masterclass in misdirection, built around Charles Laughton and Marlene Dietrich trading blows in a courtroom crackles with tension.
