Overview
Behind every teenage heartthrob of the late 1950s stood someone who understood the machinery of fame better than the stars themselves. Loosely drawn from the career of rock promoter Bob Marcucci, who shaped the images of Frankie Avalon and Fabian, this 1980 drama follows a man with an ear for the crowd and an eye for raw talent he can mold, market, and occasionally resent. Ray Sharkey earned a Golden Globe for his sharp, driven performance.
