Overview
In the devastated landscape of 1950s Poland, a classical musician and a working-class woman collide across the rubble of war. Their romance blooms against the backdrop of state surveillance and ideological rigidity, each drawn to something forbidden in the other. Director Pawel Pawlikowski captures the push and pull of two people who understand they're incompatible yet cannot resist. Desire becomes defiance in a nation learning to live under occupation.
