Overview
On a sweltering English summer evening in 1935, a thirteen-year-old girl misreads what she sees and sets in motion a lie that destroys two people she loves. Joe Wright's adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel follows the consequences of that single act across decades, through the trauma of Dunkirk and into old age, where guilt festers long after the damage is done. Keira Knightley and James McAvoy anchor a story about how the stories we tell ourselves can become their own kind of prison.
