Overview
A young dancer's talent catches the eye of Boris Lermontov, the imperious impresario who believes art demands total devotion, nothing less. When she falls for the composer scoring her star vehicle, Lermontov treats the romance as a betrayal. Powell and Pressburger frame this triangle as a genuine philosophical conflict: can a person serve both love and ambition without destroying one or the other? The answer arrives through one of cinema's most ravishing and devastating ballet sequences.
