Overview
Portland, 1971. Bob Hughes runs a tight operation: four addicts, a rotating circuit of drugstores and hospital medicine cabinets, and just enough charm to keep the whole thing moving. Gus Van Sant's film follows Bob and his crew, including his wife Dianne and two restless partners, as they chase the next score through a haze of pills and rituals. What begins as a strange, freewheeling life gradually reveals its costs, one bad omen at a time.
