Overview
Chili Palmer collects debts for a living, which turns out to be surprisingly good preparation for Hollywood. Sent to Los Angeles to shake down a B-movie producer, the Miami loan shark finds himself more interested in pitching scripts than breaking kneecaps. John Travolta plays Chili with effortless cool, and Barry Sonnenfeld's sharp adaptation of Elmore Leonard's novel uses the mob-meets-movies conceit to land some genuinely cutting observations about ambition, ego, and the particular shamelessness required to survive in either business.
