Overview
Fresh out of Harvard Law, Bryan Stevenson heads to Alabama not for a prestigious firm but for death row, where men with no money and no advocates wait for justice that never seems to arrive. At the center of his early work is Walter McMillian, convicted of murder despite evidence pointing the other way. Based on Stevenson's memoir, the film is a clear-eyed look at how the legal system punishes poverty as much as it punishes crime.
