Overview
Clint Eastwood turns the Pacific War narrative inside out, telling the brutal story of Iwo Jima from the Japanese side of the sand. General Tadamichi Kuribayashi and his men know they are defending ground they cannot hold, yet they dig in anyway. Letters home that were never sent frame a portrait of ordinary soldiers caught between duty, fear, and an empire that has already decided their fate. Survival was never really the plan.
