Overview
Spain, 1944. Ofelia is ten years old, newly transplanted to a military outpost where her cold, sadistic stepfather commands the last remnants of Franco's resistance campaign. To survive, she retreats into a labyrinth near the camp, where an ancient faun makes her an extraordinary offer: complete three dangerous tasks and reclaim a royal identity in a hidden kingdom below the earth. Guillermo del Toro braids fairy tale dread with the grinding brutality of fascism, and neither world offers easy comfort.
