Overview
The final chapter of Masaki Kobayashi's monumental trilogy finds Kaji pressing westward through a devastated Manchuria, the war lost and the Imperial dream collapsed into snow and silence. Leading a dwindling band of soldiers through Soviet-occupied territory, he clings to the idea of home like a man gripping ice. Each step forward costs something irreplaceable. Kobayashi renders survival not as triumph but as a slow, aching erosion of everything Kaji once believed himself to be.
