Overview
Somewhere in the Burmese jungle, a British colonel ordered to build a railway bridge for his Japanese captors begins to see the project as a point of honor rather than an act of submission. As his men hammer and sweat under a brutal sun, Allied operatives are already planning to destroy what he is determined to finish. David Lean's 1957 epic finds its real war not between nations, but inside one man's stubborn, misguided sense of duty.
