Overview
Greece has just broken free from Ottoman rule, and someone has to hold the fragile new nation together. That burden falls on Ioannis Kapodistrias, a diplomat of rare moral seriousness who steps into the role of the country's first governor in the early 1800s. The film charts his fight to protect individual freedoms against entrenched interests and powerful enemies, tracking the personal cost of a man who surrenders wealth and comfort in service of a people still learning what independence means.
