Overview
At nineteen, Lucy Harmon travels from America to a sunlit Tuscan villa, ostensibly to sit for a sculptor who knew her late mother. But the real reason she has come is more private: four years ago, she kissed an Italian boy somewhere on these grounds, and she has not forgotten. Bertolucci frames her summer among artists, expatriates, and wine-soaked evenings as something between awakening and mourning, a portrait of a young woman searching for herself in a landscape that seems to hold all the answers.
