Overview

Wartime Sweden, 1943. In the coastal city of Malmö, a fifteen-year-old boy named Stig falls hard for Viola, his teacher, a woman more than two decades older and quietly suffocating inside a marriage to a drunk who can barely hold himself together. She finds in Stig something she has almost forgotten: the feeling of being wanted. Bo Widerberg's film is tender and unflinching, refusing to flatten either character into a simple villain or victim.
