Overview
Bangkok in the early 1970s, all heat and colonial leisure. Emmanuelle arrives to join her diplomat husband and quickly discovers that their marriage operates without the usual boundaries. What follows is less a story about transgression than about a woman learning the vocabulary of her own desire. Sylvia Kristel brings a dreamy, unhurried quality to the role, and director Just Jaeckin frames the whole thing in sun-drenched soft focus that somehow made it the most commercially successful French film of its era.
